Earth Day: John Kerry on Climate Change Action

  • Posted by on April 22, 2010 in Politics
  • Environmental advocates and allies have achieved plenty since the first Earth Day forty years ago: the creation of the EPA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act, are just a few of the legislative highlights that come to mind.

But, as John Kerry warned today, the U.S. has yet to confront the biggest environmental problem of today: climate change.

In a statement published today in The Huffington Post, Kerry urged voters to demand climate action from legislators.

"And here's what I'm saying and what we need you to demand: this is the way to transform our energy economy and put Americans back in control of our energy production, instead of sending so much of our money to oil-rich regimes around the world (yes, $100 million every day to Iran!) and create millions -- millions -- of the clean energy jobs that can power our economy in the next century."
